Rouhani talks with Aliyev, Sargsyan over phone

TEHRAN, Apr. 06 (MNA) – Iran’s Hassan Rouhani has twitted that he has talked to his Azeri and Armenian counterparts about ending the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

President Rouhani has reportedly told both presidents that Iran would effectively help end the conflict which culminated in border clashes in a region so highly disputed. Rouhani also emphasized that peaceful settlement of the conflict was best option for both sides.

Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia had equal claims on the majority-Armenian region of Karabakh. Historically, the region had been a metropolitan area where different ethnic groups lived in symbiosis and Armenians and Azeri Turks laid claims on the region only recently when scientific explorations speculated that the region would be located in a possibly great oil field.
